| Timbavati white-African lion (2009) Medium: Charcoal engraving on board Dimensions (centimeters):90 x 76 Description: Biologist Chris McBride confirmed the existence of the long mythologised white lions of southern Africa back in the ninteen seventies when two white cubs were born to apparently normally pigmented adults in Timbavati reserve on the edge of Kruger National Park . Subsequent births revealed a recessive white gene at play. Rather sadly there are no longer white lions living wild. For their own protection from ruthless poachers authorities have taken them into captivity and here the gene pool is protected. |
