'All in the family - Common squirrel monkeys'
Size 85x53cm Charcoal engraving on board
So called 'common' squirrel monkeys occur in northern South America and Central America and are often found associated with fruiting rainforest trees. These beautiful and peaceful little monkeys feed mainly on fruit and leaves although like many primates they also supplement their diet with insect and even small bats which they actively search for in the forest canopy. They are agile, active and highly social often living in large groups of 30 to 100 individuals who all sleep together at night.
